In Novi Sad, Serbia

Interior view of Fabrika

On Aug 6th I flew to Belgrade to meet up with six of the artists involved in the “Re: Location” exchange project and we travelled together to Novi Sad, about 80 Kms to the NW of  Belgrade, where the exhibition will take place. This exchange, which has been organised by Mike Walton, also involves UK-based artists Jonathan Moss, Lawrence Cassidy, Linda Wooding, Mary Fitzpatrick, Mat Birchall, Pete Clarke, Peter Daviz, Tao Lashley-Burnley and Victoria Lucas.

The exhibition, scheduled to open Friday, Aug 16th at the SKCNS (Studentski Kulturni Centar Novi Sad) Fabrika Gallery, is located close to the banks of the River Dunav (the local name for the river Danube) and a short walk from the city centre.

I am planning to show two new small-scale installations in the exhibition, both of which feature imagery recorded whilst I was in Japan- Autumn Moon and Mount Fuji @ 240 KPH.

Interview with Andrew Demirjian, Clocktower Radio, New York

RADIO // Clocktower Exhibits & Events Andrew Demirjian and Chris Meigh Andrews, Originally aired 7/23/13

Former Clocktower resident Andrew Haik Demirjian in conversation with the artist, writer, and curator Chris Meigh Andrews after the publication of the second addition of his book A History of Video Art: Development of Form and Function. Andrews mentions that after the first edition was released in 2006 he felt “art as video” became part of something larger with the rapid development of digital recording, he expanded the second edition by including newer artists in a more global lens. We learn how Andrews began curating and writing (mostly out of necessity) and his long-running curatorial project “Digital Aesthetic.” The two colleagues also discuss technology’s effect on the video art scene in early 1970s Tokyo, the role of broadcast television in defining video art, what defines “technological” and “media” art as mediums, and the exciting diversity of the contemporary media art scene.

New edition of “A History of Video Art” to be published this year.

The 2nd Edition of my book “A History of Video Art” will be published by Bloomsbury later this year. I have been working on a new updated and extended text and the new edition will be produced in a larger format with additional images. The book will be available in both paperback and hardback and the cover design will feature Peter Campus’ seminal videotape “Three Transitions” (1973).
